The children of slain NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia remembered her as a "protector, defender, guidance counselor, spiritual adviser ... philosopher, philanthropist, theorist and mother" at her funeral service on Tuesday.

Familia, who was shot and killed while sitting inside her police vehicle last week, was posthumously promoted to Detective First-Grade before the service, WABC-TV reports.

Her 12-year-old son, Peter, and her 20-year-old daughter, Genesis Vilella, gave emotional and touching remarks.

Vilella said she was "so proud" of her mother, who fulfilled her dream and officially became a member of the NYPD exactly 12 years ago to the day of her funeral.

"She went to work every day for us. And she took that tour knowing the consequences that came with it," Vilella said.
Her son urged mourners to tell someone - "anybody you see" - you love them.

Familia is also survived by a 12-year-old daughter and her 86-year-old mother.
