STRAWBERRY MANSION (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Police say gunfire interrupted a birthday celebration in the city's Strawberry Mansion section.

It happened at 2:15 a.m. Saturday as the party was wrapping up in the 2700 block of West York Street.

Investigators say a 35-year-old man told them he stepped out onto the porch of a home and saw another man approaching with a gun in his hand.

He quickly went back inside and tried to prevent the gunman from entering.

That's when the suspect opened fire.

The victim was hit in the chest, back, and thigh.

Medics rushed him to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

The suspect fled on foot and remains at large.
