LAWNCREST (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a 15-year-old boy is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot outside his home in the city's Lawncrest section.

It happened at 11:30 p.m. Sunday on Cheltenham Avenue near Alcott Street.

Police say one or possibly two gunmen ambushed the boy outside his family's home and opened fire.

"We found ten spent shell casings on the sidewalk right outside of the house (where) he lives," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told Action News.

The wounded boy ran down Cheltenham Avenue toward Alcott Street before collapsing.

Medics rushed him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators are looking for two suspects, both described as black males. One was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, the other a dark colored sweatshirt.

Action News is told the suspects may have fled in a dark-colored pickup truck or silver SUV.

The Philadelphia Police Northeast Detective Division is investigating.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
