LAWNDALE (WPVI) -- A group of concerned homeowners want to stop the construction of a convenience store and gas station in their Philadelphia neighborhood.

Protesters were out in Lawndale Sunday, armed with picket signs and clipboards.

They are hoping to get enough support to convince the zoning board to deny the request that would allow the Royal Farms company to move forward.

Some residents argue the 24 hour gas station would cause traffic problems and take away from green space among other concerns.

"Encouraging loitering, drug use, possibly prostitution, stuff that will trickle into our historic cemetery and into our community," resident Heather Miller said.

Miller adds that the neighborhood already has plenty of gas stations and the addition of another isn't necessary.
