Philadelphia police search for suspect in 2 shootings

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Police Department is asking the public's help in locating a suspect wanted in connection with two shootings.

The suspect is identified as 31-year-old Xavier Gutierrez-Mendez from the 5700 block of Chester Avenue.

The first shooting happened around 9:45 p.m. on June 8.

Police found a 44-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital in stable condition.

The victim informed investigators that following an argument, he was shot by a man he knew from the neighborhood as "Xavier."

The second shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. Saturday on the 6500 block of Belmar Street.

Arriving officers found a 24-year-old man lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds to the back of the head, shoulders, and arm.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.
