Center City Sips goes on after last week's brawl
CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- One week after at least six men were captured on video fighting during a Center City Sips event, the summer tradition goes on as planned, with some added security.
Sips is a seasonal event on Wednesdays during the summer.
The idea is to attract people to the city and boost revenue at participating bars and restaurants. It is organized by the Center City District.
Chops restaurant hosted the event where the melee happened last week.
The owner told Action News in five years they've never had an issue and they've always had extra security.
This week, a manager at Chops said they decided not to participate in the Sips event and, instead, will hold their own happy hour.
In light of last week's brawl, the Center City District said they've had face to face meetings with some of the larger venues and have hired off-duty Philadelphia police bike patrol officers to add a presence on streets and sidewalks during and after Sips.
No arrests were made in the brawl.
The owner of Chops told Action News, security took photos of the IDs of some of the men involved and have banned them from the restaurant.
