Storms topple trees, damage homes, cause minor flooding around Pa., NJ, Del.
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Powerful thunderstorms roared through the region overnight.
The deluge caused some damage and left some vehicles stranded on area roads.
Action News was in Gloucester Township, N.J., where heavy rain caused the foundation of a home to give way.
The call came in around 2 a.m. Wednesday from the 500 block of Beverly Drive.
Police say surging water caused a basement wall to collapse as someone slept nearby.
Fortunately no one was hurt.
Officials say a lightning strike may have touched off a blaze in Willingboro, Burlington County.
Crews were called to the unit block of Eagle Lane shortly after 1 a.m.
They found flames shooting from one side of house.
It took 35 firefighters about half an hour to get the upper hand.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
In Lower Merion Township, Pa., a large tree fell across City Avenue near 66th Street at 11 p.m.
The busy road was blocked for more than two hours as crews worked to remove the tree.
All lanes were back open by 1:30 a.m.
And in South Philadelphia, the Action Cam found several vehicles stuck in flood waters.
It happened at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say the drivers became trapped in the 3000 block of South Broad Street when they drove into rising water under the I-95 overpass near the city's sports complex.
No one was hurt.
