UPPER MACUNGIE, Pa. (WPVI) -- Pennsylvania State Police are on the scene of a crash that left nine people injured Monday afternoon.

The 2-vehicle crash happened in the westbound lanes of Interstate-78 near MM 50.7 in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County.

Police say a 2014 ford fusion, driven by 21-year-old Joseph Farnese of Riegelsville, left its lane and side swiped a 2015 Chevy Traverse, driven by 46-year old Carmelo Juarez-Pena of Bayonne, NJ.

Farnese was not injured, however, all the occupants in the Traverse were seriously injured when that vehicle struck a guardrail.

One of the occupants was partially ejected. All the injured were rushed to Lehigh Valley hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
