Selena Gomez reveals kidney transplant on Instagram

Singer Selena Gomez has announced that she had a kidney transplant over the summer.

The 25-year-old posted a photo on Instagram of her and her best friend in the hospital together.

Gomez said the kidney was donated by her friend Francia Raisa, best known for her role on the ABC Family series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."

The post did not reveal the singer's current condition or where or when then procedure took place.

Gomez said her lupus is behind her failing kidneys. She said she made the post because she wanted fans to know why she hasn't been out more promoting her new album.
