Fresh off the flight from North Carolina, 14 "paw-sengers" were destined for a kill shelter when they were saved by the Burlington County Animal Alliance.

"We have a different group of people that we have networked with, people in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia," says Suzanne Coculo, Assistant Director of Burlington County Animal Alliance.

The dogs were flown in by Flying Fur, a non-profit organization, piloted by Army veteran Paul Steklenski.

Paul flies his 1969 Beach Craft Bonanza around the northeast, loading it with animals in need, and giving them a second chance at life.

This past weekend was no different, "Paul flew down, loaded his plane. Even with bad weather, he still managed to get here," says Coculo.

The dogs' adopters and foster parents were waiting at the airport.

Maui is a 2-year-old Akita.

"The minute she got off the plane she went up to her foster and just started giving her kisses on the face. She is super sweet," Coculo says.

Sky is a 17-week-old Hound who is worth the chase.

"We would like her to go to a home where she's going to have a fenced in yard, get a lot of activity and work off the hound energy," Coculo says.

Roxie is an owner surrender, who is also a new mom.

"Her baby's name was Kelly, and Kelly was actually adopted right from the flight," says Coculo.

And then there is Bonnie, one of the dogs saved by Flying Fur and the Burlington County Animal Alliance in North Carolina. Bonnie is super sweet and will be ready for adoption as soon as she gives birth.
