Eagles fans react to the national antherm issue: Boob Brooks reports on Action News at 6 p.m., September 24, 2017 (WPVI)

The upcoming home opener against the Giants wasn't the only thing on the mind of Eagles fans tailgating at Lincoln Financial Field.

Fans were on both sides of the national anthem issue before the big game Sunday morning.

The controversy was initially sparked by President Trump earlier in the week
with this statement:

"Wouldn't you love to see these NFL owners when someone disrespects our flag to say get that son of a b*tch off our field right now," said President Trump. "Out. He's fired."

One group organized and was marching around the pre-game tailgates, saying they support the right for players to kneel, calling it democracy.

"If I don't stand [for them] who will," said Melissa Robinson of Wilmington, Del. "Everyone should be standing for democracy."

And there are many fans around the Linc who did as well.

"They've gone through this journey to achieve this platform and it's their right to have something to say," said Tom Carney, of Rutledge, Pa.

But there is also a large contingent who sided with the president.

"If you don't like this country find another one," said David Coates of Wenonah, N.J. "It's just that simple."

For one woman from Blue Bell said it's a slap in the face to all of the military men and women.

"It's the United States of America, I'm proud to be here," said Ellen Kosh. "You should stand for the national anthem. That's what we fight for."
