Local effort to combat climate change
Philadelphia's mayor Jim Kenney said Wednesday climate change is real and it is having an impact on our residents

PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART (WPVI) -- Philadelphia's mayor Jim Kenney said Wednesday climate change is real and it is having an impact on our residents.

Kenney said despite the fact that scientists say we have to act or face dire consequences, the federal government decided to withdraw from the Paris Climate accord.

Cities, like Philadelphia, have to now do what it can to help.

Kenney said city officials have pledged to reduce our carbon emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050, and the mayor announced a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well. "As an example of this work we are announcing a major energy efficiency retrofit of one of the most important city owned buildings in this city is the Philadelphia museum of art."

Energy conservation measures, such as lighting upgrades and building controls, will be included in the Museum's project.
