NORRISTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Officials in Pennsylvania have announced a record seizure of the deadly drug fentanyl.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele was flanked by a cadre of law enforcement agents as he described the takedown on Tuesday.
The operation began in early July, leading officers to a trio of alleged dealers and a kilo of fentanyl.
Steele says that bust stopped the sale of 300,000 bags of the drug, which is 50 times more deadly than heroin.
The suspects were identified as 33-year-old Wilbert Taveras Payano of the Bronx; 25-year-old Lincoln Paylano Del Orbe of Philadelphia; and 29-year-old Christina Mota Soto of Philadelphia.
Officials noted that of the 249 overdose deaths in Montgomery County in 2016, 108 involved fentanyl.
