What's the Deal: Best items to buy in October

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Now that fall is in full swing, bargain hunters are officially in the holiday shopping zone.

And while Black Friday tends to offer some of the hottest deals of the year, there are some things you should buy right now.

Our friends at Deal News rounded up a list of October's biggest and best discounts.

First: costumes! But not this year's - unless your Halloween party is the weekend after the holiday. That's because the day after Halloween on November 1st, retailers slash prices up to 75% off.

But if you do need one for this year, you should at least wait until the weekend before, when the prices start to drop.

October is also the best month of the year to buy a new car as dealerships drop prices to make room for next year's models. They add this little tip: buy at the end of the day, week, or month, when salespeople strive to hit quotas.

And if you've been pining for a European vacation, it's officially shoulder season, that means the lowest airfare and hotel prices of the year.

This is also the time to book winter holidays.

Fashion wise, October offers great deals on winter coats, athletic shoes, cookware and small appliances.

But there are a few items you should wait for Black Friday to grab.

First, prices on the new Apple products won't budge until November.

Also, steer clear of laptops and TVs in October, along with any other tech product. Wait until the day after Thanksgiving for the best pricing on those items.
