Police: Man shoots wife, kills self in Lawncrest

LAWNCREST (WPVI) -- A man critically wounded his wife and then shot himself in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia, police say.

Police were called around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a home on the 400 block of Passmore Street for reports of a shooting.

The woman had managed to make her way onto the front porch.

Police arrived and took the woman to Temple University Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Arriving officers did not enter the home at first because of an odor of gas. The fire department and utility crews were called to the scene to help turn off the gas.

Once inside, officers found the man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
