A multi-vehicle crash shut down all lanes of the westbound Schuylkill Expressway for close to an hour early Tuesday morning.

It happened around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday on I-76 between University Avenue (Exit 346B) and South Street (Exit 346A).

The crash caused a major backlog which affected traffic from the Walt Whitman Bridge to the Vine Street Expressway.

Police vehicles and an ambulance arrived on the scene. Some emergency crews blocked lanes on the eastbound side of the Schuylkill Expressway for a time.

By 6 a.m., all lanes were reopened, but delays were expected.

There has been no word of injuries.
