PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A local woman is making history in the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Pastor Patricia Davenport currently serves the Philadelphia area as the Director for Evangelical Mission.

Davenport has now been elected as the Lutheran Church's first-ever black female bishop.

In her new role, Davenport will sit on a special church council overseeing Southeastern Pennsylvania.
