A shooting in West Philadelphia that left a teenage girl dead and two other teens wounded is believed to have been sparked by a 'petty dispute,' police say.

Sandrea Williams, 17, died after being caught in the crossfire in front of her family's home in the 300 block of North Simpson Street just before 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say two gunmen came out of an alley and opened fire as Williams was hanging out with a group of friends.

Williams' mother was also outside when it happened, and more than 20 bullet casings were found at the scene.

Police: 'Petty dispute' led to shooting that killed teen girl. Bob Brooks reports during Action News at Noon on May 14, 2018.

"Up to 23 shots were fired by two different guns," said Capt. John Ryan. "Another 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old male were both shot in the leg. It's a miracle there weren't any more tragedies."

The 17-year-old boy who was injured was Mekhi Sawyer, a friend of Williams. His left leg is wrapped in bandages and he has to use a crutch.

But says his focus isn't on his leg. It's mourning the loss of one of his best friends.

"I call her my sister. That's kind of self-explanatory of the type of girl she was," Sawyer said.

He recounted the moment the bullets started flying.

"It was a cordial night. We were here on Carlton Street just chilling and shots were fired," he said.

Sawyer said he and Williams were with a group of several friends and started to run. He says they became separated.

"The last time I saw her was when we were running, took off running from the shots," Sawyer said.

We asked Sawyer about what kind of 'petty dispute' police could be talking about.

He says he doesn't know.

"I don't know nothing about that. Sandrea was never in a type of drama or beef at all and neither was I," he said.

No arrests have been made in the case.

As with all Philadelphia homicide cases, there is a $20,000 reward leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
