PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Action News team is saying farewell and many thanks to one of its longtime colleagues.

After nearly 30 years, David Henry is retiring after reporting thousands of stories for us and, more importantly, for you.

A Temple University graduate, David started his news career in radio back in the '70s at WYSP-FM, and worked behind the microphone at several other stations, honing his craft.

He made the jump to television in 1980 at WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Florida. Then he found his way back to Philadelphia and Action News in 1986.

A no-nonsense, hard news reporter, David has covered hundreds of heinous crimes during the years, and more than a few ruthless killers have literally confessed to David on camera.

David's award-winning career has taken him around the globe from covering our troops in the Gulf to chronicling local pilgrims in Israel.

One of David's many assignments took him to the floor of the GOP Convention in Philadelphia - 15 years ago.

Never one to shy away from tough questions, David was known for confronting celebrity athletes and their agents.

One of David's more memorable journeys was aboard the U.S.S. Niagara as it made the voyage from Rhode Island to Philadelphia in July 2000 for the Tall Ships Parade of Sails Celebration along the Delaware River.

David, a sailor himself, weathered the voyage quite well. His camera crew - not so well.

Through it all, David has maintained the high standards our viewers have come to expect throughout the years.

He's won many awards including Temple University's prestigious Lew Klein Award for communications, and he's a recent inductee into the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame.

All of us here at Action News wish David and his wife Sara the very best.
