PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A controversial anti-Muslim advertisement began appearing Wednesday on dozens of SEPTA buses.

A rally responding to the ad's message was held Tuesday in Center City Philadelphia, in advance of the planned roll-out.

The "Dare to Understand" event brought together Mayor Michael Nutter, religious and community leaders.

The ad in question features a photo from the 1940s with Adolf Hitler talking to a Palestinian leader.

The text reads "Islamic Jew Hatred: It's in the Quran."

SEPTA lost a fight in federal court to ban the ads.

At Tuesday's rally, Muslim leader Imam Mikal Shabazz told supporters if the ad angers them, to channel the anger constructively and not resort to violence.

"This is the opposite of what our religion stands for, and therefore you should conduct yourself in a dignified and respectful manner," said Shabazz.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative purchased the advertisement, which cost about $30,000.

The ad will run for four weeks on 84 SEPTA buses.
