Ariz. man, 78, killed in Del. boating accident

LONG NECK, Del. (WPVI) -- A 78-year-old man from Arizona was killed in a boating accident in Long Neck, Delaware.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the entrance to the Pot Nets Bayside community in the Indian River Bay.

Witnesses tell police a personal watercraft returning to Pot Nets Bayside collided with the bow of a pontoon boat leaving Pot Nets Bayside.

Police say the impact launched the watercraft over the boat before it came down in the water.

The operator of the watercraft, a 78-year-old man from Phoenix, Arizona, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator of the boat, a 56-year-old Wilmington man, was flown to Christiana Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

Two passengers on the boat, a 53-year-old Newark man and 10-year-old Bridgeville boy, were uninjured.

The victims' names are being withheld pending notification of family.
