LAWNCREST (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say two armed suspects tied up a clerk during the robbery of a convenience store in the city's Lawncrest section.

It happened at 1 a.m. Monday at the 7-Eleven store in the 5800 block of Rising Sun Avenue.

Store clerk bound and robbed: Jeannette Reyes reports during Action News at 5 a.m. on May 8, 2017.

Two suspects, one armed with a handgun, the other with a knife, walked into the store and announced a holdup.

They told the clerk to get down on the floor, tied that person up, grabbed whatever cash they could find, then fled about ten minutes later with $8,000.

The clerk was not physically injured.

Frequent customers of the store were shocked and disappointed to learn about the robbery.

"I'm kind of scared to go into the store now," said Margaret Gilliam. "Because you just never know - daylight or midnight - you just never know what's going to happen."

"The neighborhood here at that hour is probably not that safe," said Connie Courtney.

Customers also said that, although it's convenient, having this store open 24 hours a day may not be worth the risk.

"It's going to hurt a lot of people," said Gilliam. "But if it's going to save money plus save the employees, I'd rather it be a regular 9 to 5."

"It's really a nice spot for the community," said Dan Daily of Lawncrest. "But at 1:00 in the morning, probably not."

The victim was not able to give a good description of the suspects.

Police are reviewing surveillance video as they work to bring the suspects to justice.
