SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police have arrested a suspect they say slashed the tires of several vehicles in South Philadelphia.

Police were called to the 1000 block of Ellsworth Street after 1:00 a.m. Monday.

Officers spotted a man who fit a description given to them by witnesses.

As they approached, they saw the suspect had a knife and took him into custody.

The tires of at least 9 vehicles were slashed.

"It's really tough, there's a lot of working people around here in a not too bad section of the city and to come out and to see this first thing in the morning is pretty tough," said Meg Keefe, one of the victims.

Police identified the suspect as a 29-year-old man.

His name has not been released.
