Police say a man was shot and killed in Camden, New Jersey early Friday morning.

CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- Authorities have released the identity of the man who was shot and killed in Camden, New Jersey early Friday morning.

The incident happened shortly after 3:00 a.m. on the 1400 block of South 9th Street.

31-year-old Andrew Perez was inside his silver 2005 Honda Civic at a stop light when a gunman opened fire on him, police say.

Perez was shot several times. Authorities say one of the bullets hit the car's fuel tank.

He was able to pull away but slammed into several parked cars before stopping at 9th Street and Lansdowne Avenue.

Perez was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

Firefighters were called to the scene for a fuel leak.

Police are searching for the gunman.
