WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An autopsy is scheduled for the baby that died after someone dropped the newborn off at the hospital in a duffel bag.

Investigators say the child was born Thursday in the 5800 block of Norfolk Street in West Philadelphia.

The newborn was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on Friday in a duffel bag and pronounced dead.

It's unclear who the person was that dropped the baby off.

The child's 22-year-old mother was also hospitalized. No word on her condition.

Family friends tell Action News that the woman was possibly 5-6 months along.

Few others details have been released.

An autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death.

A search warrant will also be executed at the residence where the mother lived with relatives.

The Special Victims Unit is handling the case.
