NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A broken water main led to the buckling of a North Philadelphia road early Saturday morning.

It happened around 3 a.m. at the intersection of North 8th and Norris Streets.

A large hole was left in the road from the broken main.

A driver, unaware of the situation, drove into the buckled road and their vehicle became disabled. A tow truck was then called to remove the vehicle.

Water company crews soon arrived and shut down the broke main.

Police tell Action News that utilities crews have been doing work in the intersection earlier in the day. PGW authorities dispatched a security guard to the area to wait for crews to arrive, since there is now a smell of natural gas in the area of the ruptured road.

There have been no evacuations or injuries reported.
