MAYS LANDING, N.J. -- Authorities did not find a weapon and no students were hurt after two southern New Jersey schools were locked down when a bullet was found.

Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles says that officials searched 1,400 students at the Atlantic County Institute of Technology and the Special Services School with metal detector wands and then placed them on school buses.

Balles says students were allowed back inside to retrieve their belongings after explosive detection dogs went into the buildings and didn't find anything.

He says a school resource officer is continuing to investigate where the bullet came from.
