Burlco man admits to burglaries that netted over $2M in goods

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. -- A Burlington County, New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to a slew of 2012 burglaries that netted more than $2 million in goods.

Prosecutors announced Tuesday that 56-year-old Darius Gittens admitted to burglary and theft charges. The Medford man is expected to sentenced on March 3.

Authorities said Gittens and Geoffrey Petit sought out high-end neighborhoods in secluded wooded areas. The pair waited until the homes were vacant and cut phone and alarm wires. They then stole items, including jewelry, purses, and guns.

A flashlight with Gittens' DNA evidence led authorities to thousands of calls and texts between the men.

Authorities recovered more than 500 items either buried in Gitten's yard or hidden in an abandoned building in Philadelphia.

Petit was sentenced to nearly a year in jail.
