CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- Authorities say the suspect wanted for shooting and wounding a police officer in Camden late Wednesday night has been arrested.

The alleged shooter is identified as 21-year-old Victor Bennett of Camden.

Bennett was taken into custody on Friday.

He's wanted for a shooting that occurred around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

That's when police say Bennett and three other individuals got out of a parked SUV on Kenwood Avenue and walked away.

When a police officer drove past in an unmarked vehicle, Bennett suddenly opened fire, hitting the officer's car with several rounds, police said.

The officer was struck in the arm by a bullet fragment, and was later treated at Cooper University Hospital.

The fugitive task force says Bennett was tracked down to an apartment on the 200 of Haddon Avenue in Collingswood.

After a three block foot chase, officers caught him.

Police say Bennett was armed with a loaded handgun. He's being held on $1 million bail.
