CAMDEN, N.J. -- A car crash led to a house collapse in Camden, New Jersey late Monday night.

The incident happened just after 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of 10th and Linden Streets.

According to police, the 20-year-old driver lost control of the car, hit a house, then spun out, knocking down several utility poles and ending up across the street from the house.

A man and woman were trapped inside the car.

Rescue crews arrived on the scene and were working to free the victims when the house began to collapse.

Fortunately, no one was injured as the front of the house came down.

The crash victims were taken to the hospital, both in critical condition.

The vacant house that was struck was left unstable after the impact and initial collapse. So the city called in demolition crews to take down the rest of the structure due to safety concerns.

Officials say the house was being renovated and was empty at the time of the collapse.

Cause of the crash remains under investigation.
