Car slams into ambulance in North Philadelphia

Police say a car slammed head-on into an ambulance in North Philadelphia early Thursday morning.

The accident happened just past 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Broad and Tioga Streets.

The driver of a Chevy Impala was traveling north on Broad when the car crossed into the southbound lanes and hit the ambulance, police say.

The driver of the car suffered head injuries and was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

The ambulance was taking a patient to the hospital at the time of the crash. The patient is in stable condition.

The medics were not seriously hurt.
