CHERRY HILL, N.J. (WPVI) -- Two women were honored Tuesday night for doing what they love.

Claire Bauman and Helen Nitz have been crossing guards in Cherry Hill for 50 years.

The 88- and 87-year-old have been friends even longer.

Their friendship started when they were in first grade.

They became crossing guards in 1965, just a month apart.

At the township council meeting both Bauman and Nitz were presented with proclamations for their decades of service.

"We are overwhelmed, as long as we can do it, we'll do it," Bauman said.

"I feel the same way, no signs of retirement yet," Nitz said.

Both women say they love watching the kids grow up.

And even, one of their former students, was their limo driver for the event.
