Child injured after dirt bike crashes into car in Southwest Philadelphia

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say a child was injured when a dirt bike crashed into a car in Southwest Philadelphia.

It happened around 4 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of 57th Street and Whitby Avenue.

Police say the driver of the dirt bike was trying to avoid a police helicopter at the time of the accident.

The child was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for minor injuries.

The driver was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Police launched a citywide effort Sunday to crackdown on ATVs and dirt bikes.

There was no immediate word on if the dirt bike driver will face charges.
