6abc is very proud to have taken part in a sizeable gift to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is the recipient of a big gift from the Walt Disney Company.

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse spread their special Disney cheer to patients at the hospital in University City on Monday.

The two iconic characters revealed an even bigger present today with the help of our boss here at 6abc.

6abc President and General Manager Bernie Prazenica presented a check worth $250,000 to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia CEO Dr. Steven Altschuler.

The check was presented on behalf of 6abc, Disney, and the Disney ABC Television Group.

The money will go towards a Wait. Play. Learn. area that will go inside the new Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care, the world-class outpatient facility to open this summer.

Mr. Prazenica said, "We support CHOP's belief that every child deserves a story of hope. Here at 6abc, it's our hope that this gift will help write many of those stories. We're happy to build the interactive Wait. Play. Learn. area that will add a few smiles to those stories of hope. And who better to deliver those first smiles than Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, who will join us to mark this next chapter as one to celebrate."

The waiting area will provide a place where children can learn and have fun while they wait. It's ideal for some of the kids who spend a lot of time at CHOP.

Dr. Altschuler explains, "There will be activities where they can play, where they can learn. It will be interactive. So it's a completely different concept from your typical waiting area."

Disney and 6abc's waiting room will be in the orthopedic area of the new Buerger Center.
