A parade of fire trucks from the Newark Fire Department lined the streets on Christmas Eve, but not to fight a fire.

Instead crews were headed to deliver gifts to a family that lost everything in a house fire.

"It's been unbelievable. People from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia have come together," said Chief Drew Bowerson.

Just days ago, firefighters fought the flames in the Yorkshire section of Newark, Delaware.

That same group came together Thursday to bring some Christmas cheer. Firefighters along with the community held a donation drive to help the family.

"The outpouring from the community has been unbelievable," said Bowerson. "We've gotten anything from brand-new bicycles, brand-new shoes, all the way down to toiletries."

The Scarbro's tell Action News while the loss is devastating, they are overwhelmed by the generosity they are receiving.

"This is overwhelming to be the one on the receiving end, but sometimes you gotta swallow that and say thank you, and I really appreciate that from the depth of my heart," said homeowner Christopher Scarbro.

It was a Christmas miracle and the packages seemed to be never ending. For a family used to giving, the tables were now turned.

"When a community comes together like this and people give of themselves and their time and take away from their family and everything else, that's what the true meaning of Christmas is all about," said Scarbro.

A fire created a holiday this family will never forget - not just for what they lost, but for the Christmas cheer they received.

"Words cannot express the way I feel for my family because we do now have a Christmas, said Scarbro.
