A Camden man was shot and killed 12 years ago right in front of his girlfriend and his family is still pleading for answers.

CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- A Camden man was shot and killed outside a restaurant right in front of his girlfriend and 12 years later his family is still pleading for answers.

Speaking through her daughter, Esperanza Sanchez says her son Efraim was well liked in the community.

"She said he was a great son, he had a lot of people who loved him, he had a lot of friends," she said.

On August 28, 2002, the 38-year-old was with his girlfriend in the area of 21st and River Road in Camden.

At about 11:00 p.m. police say Efraim had just exited a Chinese restaurant.

"At some point he was approached by a male or males and there was a quick verbal altercation which then led to him being killed," said Det. Michael Sutley, Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

Efraim was shot to death. His girlfriend wasn't injured.

His family says he had a history with drugs and they are not sure if that could have be a possible motive.

"You know just we loved him, we miss him and we just want to know who did this," said Maritza Santos, sister

The Citizens Crime Commission is administering $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

"If they didn't say nothing the first time, can they please you know come out with the information this time," said Maritza.

"We need people to come forward, we need people to stand up and take their community back," said Det. Sutley.
