Driver describes terrifying Route 222 tractor-trailer crash

A driver describes the terrifying moment when he found himself staring at an out of control tractor-trailer in Berks County.

The big rig crashed into several cars along Route 222 in Maidencreek Township on Wednesday.

Tom James was on the road that morning.

"Car was on his front bumper, coming towards me. I just tried to keep moving to the right hand side of the road and the next thing I know, the car is spinning."

23-year-old Jeremy Augustine of Emmaus and 32-year-old Jane Harakal of Topton, were killed.

Nine other people were injured.

Police say the trucker, who is now in custody, fell asleep at the wheel.

The big rig is being inspected for mechanical problems.
