Elderly man beaten, robbed by fake city worker in West Oak Lane

Philadelphia police say a criminal posing as a trash inspector beat and robbed an elderly man in the city's West Oak Lane neighborhood.

WEST OAK LANE (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a criminal posing as a trash inspector beat and robbed an elderly man in the city's West Oak Lane neighborhood.

Surveillance video from Brownie's Par Four Lounge on the 7100 block of Ogontz Avenue shows an 83-year-old man letting the suspect into the bar on Monday afternoon.

Once inside, the fake city worker punches the victim in the face and knocks him to the ground.

After robbing him, the suspect then handcuffs the elderly man to a railing and tries unsuccessfully to get into the cash register.

The robber then takes the man outside to gain access to the second floor of the building, but was scared off when when the victim started to scream.

He was last seen running south on Ogontz Avenue.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 35-45 years-of-age, light beard/stubble, dark complected, 6'5, thin build, wearing thin rimmed black glasses, long black coat, dark colored Jeff hat, dark colored pants, and dark colored shoes.
