Enabling the fight against overdose
Police cars throughout MontCo will carry Narcan to reverse Heroin overdose

EAST NORRITON, Pa. (WPVI) -- Every single police car throughout Montgomery County will carry Narcan to reverse heroin overdoses.

The District Attorney's office will fund the initiative using 160 thousand dollars taken from drug traffickers.

Officials say it's just one part of the battle against a growing epidemic.

Heroin is the number two killer, second only to heart disease, for people under 70 across Pennsylvania.

Many of the addictions start with prescription medication.

A mother who lost her son to an overdose seven years ago urged the entire community to join police in safely disposing of unwanted pills.

"I think it's very important as parents that we step up aside them and help. Help educate our children, help get these pills of the streets by emptying our medicine cabinets"

Montgomery county has a number of secure boxes throughout the county for people to drop off unwanted prescriptions.
