Families celebrate Mother's Day around Philadelphia

Families enjoyed Mother's Day Sunday around Philadelphia.

Kate McLaine and her son, Christopher, always play mini golf on Mother's Day.

"Mom has always beaten me almost every single year," said Christopher Patch of Bethesda, Maryland. "Except for two years ago - my first win."

There is one rule - the mother/son competitors from the Washington, D.C., area always play a different course every year.

"Philadelphia's a nice, short drive from Washington so we're here at Franklin Square to play mini golf on Mother's Day," said McLaine of Bethesda, Maryland.

Franklin Square was pack with moms and kids of all ages, enjoying the long overdue sunshine and a carousel ride.

At the Pavilion, there were lots of hugs and kisses to go along with a scrumptious and popular Mother's Day brunch.

"This is the fourth year that we've had the brunch, and we've been sold out every year," said Janelle Carter of Franklin Square.

One group celebrated Mother's Day with four generations.

"We're awfully lucky that we're all together, and that we live so close by so we can get together for all the holidays - including Mother's Day," said Rita Chu of New York City.

For the crafty moms, or the moms who like to shop, the 13th annual Art Star Craft Bazaar had lots of unique and handmade gifts, and for many moms this has become a Mother's Day tradition.

"We moved it to Mother's Day about four or five years ago, and ever since then it's kind of stayed in peoples minds," said Erin Waxman, Art Star Craft Bazaar. "They can come down here, have a great day with their mom."

"This is so unique here. It's so different from anywhere we've been," said Kim Brown of Columbia, Maryland. "I'm very artsy and craftsy. It's amazing. I love it."

For a mom of two, including a 2-month-old, Sunday was a chance to enjoy a day with her kids, and to buy a very important gift.

"It is Mother's Day. I was told to buy something for myself." said Samantha Halsey of Lancaster.
