Fire that damaged playground in New Castle was arson, fire marshal says

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office has determined that a fire that damaged playground equipment in New Castle was deliberately set.

NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) -- The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office has determined that a fire that damaged playground equipment in New Castle was deliberately set.

The fire was reported shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Simonds Gardens Park on Simonds Drive.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the playground equipment.

They quickly doused the flames. No injuries were reported.

Damage to the equipment is extensive and estimated at $60,000.
