A 9-story building was evacuated after a fire in Philadelphia's Spring Garden section. (WPVI)

A 9-story building was evacuated after a fire in Philadelphia's Spring Garden section.

It happened around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of North Broad Street near Wallace Street.

Arriving crews reported fire and smoke showing from The Lofts at 640.

Initial reports are that the fire originated on the roof.

The building was quickly evacuated and Broad Street was shut down.

Crews were able to bring the blaze under control by 9:45 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

It's believed that the fire stemmed from the air conditioning units but the exact cause is under investigation.
