Firefighter hurt battling house fire in Southwest Philadelphia

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 5900 block of Kingsessing Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia.

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A firefighter sustained a minor injury battling a blaze in Southwest Philadelphia.

The blaze broke out at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 5900 block of Kingsessing Avenue.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the first floor that had spread to the second floor.

It took them about half an hour to get the upper hand. At least one neighboring home was damaged.

One firefighter was taken to an area hospital to be treated for an ankle injury.

Fire investigators were working to determine what sparked the blaze.
