A firefighter and resident were injured in a massive apartment blaze in West Philadelphia late Thursday night.

WEST PHILADELPHIA -- A firefighter and resident were injured in a massive apartment blaze in West Philadelphia late Thursday night.

The fire broke out around 11:45 p.m at the Chestnut Park apartments on the 100 block of 62nd Street.

Fire crews arrived to heavy flames shooting from the third floor of the 4-story building.

Crews quickly called for a second alarm. It took about an hour and twenty minutes to get the blaze under control.

The building was evacuated. 69 residents were taken by SEPTA to a Red Cross shelter at Sayre High School at 58th and Walnut Street.

Both the firefighter and resident were taken to the hospital for treatment.

They are in stable condition.

The fire marshal is working on finding out what sparked the blaze.
