Fire crews battled a house fire in the Wissinoming section of Philadelphia early Thursday morning.

WISSINOMING (WPVI) -- Fire crews battled a house fire in the Wissinoming section of Philadelphia early Thursday morning.

The blaze broke out just before 1:00 a.m. on the 5700 block of Tackawanna Street.

Firefighters arrived to flames in the basement of a two-story house.

They immediately went to work, employing four pieces of equipment to fight the blaze.

The home was occupied, but the residents got out safely.

The fire was placed under control within a half hour.

Red Paw was called to the scene to aid a displaced animal.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
