CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Thomas Winkis, a former Philadelphia police sergeant, will spend two to seven years in prison after pleading guilty in deadly drunk driving crash.

He admitted to involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and DUI charges on Monday morning.

Winkis was off-duty back on September 14, 2013 when he slammed his Dodge Charger into a van driven by 55-year-old David Farries in the Holmesburg section.

Farries sustained massive internal injuries and died three days after the crash.

The 47-year-old Winkis broke his wrist and his female passenger suffered minor injuries.

An investigation found that Winkis and a friend had been drinking at Maggie's Waterfront cafe before the crash.

Winkis, a 21-year veteran of the police department, was fired shortly after his arrest and had been out on $50,000 bail since October 2013.
