TOMS RIVER, N.J. (WPVI) -- A former special police officer who admitted distributing child pornography is now headed to state prison.

Kevin Meier received a five-year sentence Wednesday. The 24-year-old Seaside Heights resident also must register as a sex offender and will be in lifetime probation.

Meier was fired from his special police officer job in Seaside Heights when he was arrested in June 2015. That came after authorities searched his home after getting a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Meier had pleaded guilty in May to the child porn distribution charge after Ocean County prosecutors agreed to dismiss a count of possessing child porn.
