STRAWBERRY MANSION (WPVI) -- An investigation into a shooting that left one man wounded led to a police-involved shooting in Strawberry Mansion.

The shooting happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 3200 block of Page Street.

Action News was there as one of the alleged gunmen was taken into custody for questioning.

Police say two men shot another man multiple times. The victim was found lying in the street and was rushed to Temple University Hospital.

"About a half hour later, we received information that the two shooters from that particular job ran into a house in the 3200 block of Page two blocks away," said Inspector Stephen Cross, Philadelphia Police.

Officers from the 22nd district began to surround the house in question and that's when one of the alleged gunmen came outside.

"An individual came out of the back of the house with a gun in his hand, pointed the gun at police. Police discharged at this individual, striking him one time in the abdominal area," said Inspector Cross.

The suspect was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he underwent surgery.

The officer involved in the shooting turned his service weapon in to supervisors in order to determine how many shots were fired.

It's unclear if the suspect actually fired at police. There is also no motive for the initial shooting.

"No motive. It's currently under investigation from internal affairs and central detectives. As of right now it's just the beginning of the investigation," said Inspector Cross.

The officer involved has been placed on desk duty as part of department protocol.
