Local citizens react to shootings in Dallas

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- As the details continue to unfold in Dallas, people across the nation have come out with strong opinions about the recent violence.

Here in our area you can feel the grief for those officers in Dallas, and you can also feel heartache for what's been happening across the country.

Images of Thursday night's chaos and tragedy coming out of Dallas on Friday weighed heavily on people's minds in Center City Philadelphia.

Alcora Burnley tells us, "I just wish we could be together and live together. Not so much shooting, and the malice we have against one another. I just think it's wrong."

Thursday night, the attack on officers came as a peaceful protest was ending over the police involved shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana. Here at home many expressed hurt and anger over the deaths of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, but say more violence is not the answer.

Nina Pettit of Mantua says, "It only takes one thing to set people off that are riled up. It's so sad for innocent people to lose their lives but it's also sad for the people who lost their lives that didn't need to."

And Seth Horwitz of Upper Darby says, "I can see the police reacting by arming up and becoming more militarized which is only going to exacerbate the situation."

People are grasping to find solutions, trying figure out how the nation can heal.

Pat Adams of East Lansdowne tells us, "I think that over time whoever takes the next presidency is going to make stricter gun laws - who can get guns, what kind of guns carried."

Many expressed that the violence has just seemed endless lately. People wake up each day worried to see the headlines, and what also concerns them is that there seems to be no end in sight.
