VIDEO: Couple leaves corporate lives behind, buys farm
A new trend has been popping up in the last few years on balancing work and life.

A new trend has been popping up in the last few years on balancing work and life.

In fact several high powered executives wrote blogs about their dramatic "work to life" transitions and leaving their corporate lives behind.

Action News talked to a local couple who did the same thing after taking a class on cheese making.

Imagine going from the hustle and bustle of New York City life to the peaceful, rolling hills of Chester County.

Will Reid explains, "We always knew we wanted to do something more than just working in a cubicle all day."

Several years ago, Will and his wife Lynne took a leap and left corporate life to raise goats and make cheese.

"We took a Main Line night course on cheese tasting, and the last night of the course we made cheese," Will said.

Lynne then explained how they thought, "We could do this." To which Will said, "and why not?"

A friend told the Reid's about Amazing Acres Goat Dairy being for sale and they jumped on it.

"When we bought the farm, the woman was making cheeses spent that summer with me teaching me now to make cheese," said Will.

He then took a two week certification course at the University of Vermont.

Now the couple churns out between 40 to 60 pounds of cheese a week, all by themselves.

Lynne did keep her day job as a graphic designer, but now works strictly from home.

She tells us, "I go out at lunchtime and play with my goats, feed my goats, so I don't see people very much. I'm not sure I miss that."

Will agrees and adds that while their lives may seem isolating, it's also very fulfilling.

He says, "We have afternoons where we have a drink out on the porch and look around and say wow this is really awesome. We're very lucky to have this."

"The end result of a day's work from here is some cheese and some baby goats and that's pretty satisfying."

The Reid's sell their cheese to local farm markets and several stores around the area.

You can also buy directly from them by making an appointment via their website. They even offer tours of Amazing Acres farm.
